Ted H. Tholen's Obituary
Theodore H. Tholen, 79, of Clinton, Iowa, passed away Monday, July 13, 2015 at his home in Clinton. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, July 17, 2015 at the National Cemetery Rock Island Illinois. A celebration of Ted’s life will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, July 18, 2015 at the Eagles Club, 222 South 2nd Street, Clinton. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
Ted was born April 6, 1936 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Henry and Florence (Hagen) Tholen. He was a 1954 Lyon’s High School graduate. Ted married Norlene Dierksen in Clinton, Iowa on July 2, 1998.
Ted was a U.S. Navy Veteran and was a member of the F.O.E. (Eagles Club), VFW and AMVETS.
Ted joined the Clinton Fire Department at the age of 23 after serving four years in the Navy and three years at DuPont as a slitter helper and later a chemical helper. While on the Fire Department he attained the rank of Line Captain, retiring at age 55. He returned to the fire department later as assistant to the Fire Marshall with the title of Fire Inspector, retiring at 65. He served the Central Station the first 18 years if his career, then went to Station #4 and completed his career at Station #3 as Captain in charge.
Survivors include his wife, Norlene of Clinton; sons, Ted (Pat) Tholen, III of Clinton; Curt Tholen of Clinton; Tom (Barb) Tholen of Clinton; Craig Tholen of Clinton and Shawn Tholen of East Moline, IL; four grandchildren and brother, Richard Tholen of Delano, TN.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents.
