Susan J. Camp's Obituary
Susan J. Camp, 65, unexpectedly passed away on Saturday afternoon in her home. Born in Loogootee, Indiana, on September 17, 1958, Susan was the daughter of Dorean (Pilgrim) Rodewald and Pastor Robert Rodewald.
Susan, fondly known as Sue, graduated from Wartburg College in 1980 with a degree in Education. Her passion for teaching led her to a fulfilling career spanning five years with Preston Community Schools and thirty-five years with Clinton Community Schools. On July 17, 1982, Sue married her college sweetheart, Lee Camp, in Charlotte, Iowa. Together, they shared a life filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.
Sue found joy in simple pleasures. She had a passion for reading and indulging in Hallmark movies. Gardening and canning brought her joy, and she enjoyed cooking, often organizing family gatherings. Her faith and commitment to family were the cornerstones of her life. She took immense pride in supporting and following her children through all their endeavors. Family traditions, such as wiener roasts at the pond and vacations in Northern Minnesota, held a special place in her heart. Her home reflected warmth and love, adorned with festive decorations for every holiday, with Christmas being a particular source of joy. A survivor of breast cancer, Sue exemplified resilience and strength. She actively contributed to her community as a member of Zion Lutheran Church, a supporter of Relay for Life, and involved in Stepping Stones.
Susan is survived by her devoted husband, Lee, and her loving children, Jordan (Shaela) Camp of Clinton, Courtney (Andrew) Weaks of Martelle, Iowa, and Kaylee Camp of Clinton, Iowa. Her grandchildren, Teagan, and Cade were the light of her life, and she loved her title of grandma. Her mother, Dorean Rodewald of St. Paul, Minnesota, two sisters: Rebecca (Joe) Leonard of Indian Head Park, Illinois, Lori (Dave) Geving of St. Paul Minnesota, her brother: Mark Rodewald of St. Paul, Minnesota; her father-in-law and mother-in-law: John & Carole Camp, two sisters-in-law: Cindy (Dan) Diedrich and Heather (Brian) Stoecker, and brother-in-law: Jay (Tina) Camp all of Charlotte; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father.
Sue will be remembered for her unwavering commitment to family, her passion for life's simple joys, and the mark she left on the hearts of those fortunate enough to know her.
Funeral Services will be 10:30am, Friday, December 1, 2023 at Zion Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Rossiter Cemetery – Charlotte. Serving as pallbearers will be Dan Beck, Dave Lehmkuhl, Brian Danielson, Joe Leonard, Don Luskey, and Brian Stoecker. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Darcy Thornton, Julie Wolbers, and Roxanne McElroy. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00-7:00pm at Zion Lutheran Church.
