Shirley J. Kooi's Obituary
Shirley J. Kooi, 89, of Camanche passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at her home in Camanche.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 am, Saturday, October 20, 2018 at the Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory. The family requests that you wear your Hawkeye clothing for Shirley. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Koby Kooi, Brandon Kooi, Nathan Kooi, Kyle Smith, Danniel Kooi, Dallas Buxton, Ryan Kooi and Breton Kooi. Honorary pallbearer will be Taylor Buxton. Visitation will be from 9:30 am until the service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Shirley Joan Wiebers was born May 29, 1929 in Camanche, Iowa, the daughter of Arnold I. and Dorothy H. (Watkins) Wiebers. She married Leonard “Gene” E. Kooi on April 26, 1949 in Clinton, Iowa. She graduated from Clinton High School. She was a homemaker and raised eight children.
Shirley was a sports enthusiast and an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs.
She is survived by her husband Gene Kooi of Camanche; eight children: Mike (Pam) Kooi of Camanche, Judy (Tom) Determann of Clinton, Richard (Tammie) Kooi of Camanche, Debbie (Tom) Smith of Clinton, Steve (Barb) Kooi of Camanche, Lou-Jean (Todd) Buxton of Seattle, Washington, Brian Kooi of Fulton and Barri Kooi of Camanche; 19 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren with one more on the way; one brother: Arnold (Clara) Wiebers Jr. of Camanche; one sister: Joyce Hart of Camanche and one sister-in-law Elizabeth Wiebers of Camanche.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Richard Wiebers, two sisters Evelyn O’Connors and Doris Shultz and one great grandson Garrett Weber.
