Sharon Lee Gilbert's Obituary
Sharon Lee Gilbert, 81, of Clinton, passed away Friday, June 23, 2023 at Bickford, Clinton. Services will be held 11:00AM Friday, June 30, 2023 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Clinton. Visitation will be from 9:00AM until the service hour at the Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Daly City, CA. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting snellzornig.com. Snell-Zornig is assisting the family with arrangements. Pallbearers will be nephews, Dan Grossman, James Grossman, Gene Banowetz and Duane Schmidt, and great-nephews, Kevin Hart, Jace Ugarph, Eric Lutes, Dan Levin, Alex Worrel and Josh Schmidt.
Sharon was born August 13, 1941 in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Nellie (Dixon) Grossman. She was a graduate of Clinton High School and Marycrest College, Davenport. Sharon married Michael Vernon Gilbert May 1, 1993 in Clinton; he died January 25, 2010.
Sharon was a registered nurse, working with Northern Presbyterian Homes in California for many years, she had also been employed at Mercy Hospital, the Alverno and Medical Associates in Clinton. She did mission work as a nurse at refugee camps with Catholic Relief Services in the Sudan, Thailand, Kentucky among other places and met Mother Teresa on her mission trip to Mother Teresa’s Hospice for Dying in Calcutta.
She was a very active member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, she was on many committees and organizations including the Clinton County Republican Women’s Association, PEO, the PG Center in Clinton, Clinton Wa-Tan-Ye and played violin in orchestra/symphony wherever she traveled. Her latest adventure was Bright spot Riding Center, which provides a therapeutic riding center for special needs individuals.
Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Kristine (Gene) Banowetz of Charlotte, IA; Annette (Duane) Schmidt of Elvira, IA; Dan (Paige) Grossman of Cedar Rapids, IA and James (Melissa) Grossman of Chicago, IL; step-children, Carrie (Sal) Difonzo of Scottsdale, AZ; Marilyn (Jon) Lindner of Charlottesville, VA and Jeff (Bernadette) Gilbert of Aubry, TX; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, brother and sister-in-law Bob and Betty Grossman and an infant brother.
