Saundra L. Bengston's Obituary
Saundra L. Bengston of Clinton, Iowa was called to her heavenly home on Sunday, November 24, 2024. A celebration of her life will be held at First Methodist Church of Clinton on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 10:30am with a luncheon to follow. Burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Chad Kimmer, Scott Peth, Caleb Mann, Bill Clark, Joshua Bengston, and Lucas Clark, with honorary pallbearers being Bill Swigert, Herb Shafer, Randy Green, and Matthew Green. Visitation will be held at Snell-Zornig Funeral Home on Friday, November 29, 2024, from 4-7:00pm.
Saundra was born on July 25, 1936, in Middle Grove, IL, the daughter of Leonard and Leah (Elliott) Swigert. She married Larry A. Bengston on November 7, 1954, at the Presbyterian Church in Farmington, IL. He preceded her in death on July 28, 2012. She graduated in 1954 from Farmington High School. She was a homemaker, an active member of Calvary Baptist Church for almost 50 years, and a member of First Methodist Church until the present. She also enjoyed worshiping and attending Life Group with her River Church family. She loved reading, music, and people. For many years she taught bible studies, Sunday School, and sang in the choir. She adored being with her family, especially rocking and praying for the babies. She enjoyed sharing her faith in Jesus Christ and was humble to be able to travel to many Midwestern states speaking for Stonecroft Ministries for 35 years. Her true passion was to know Christ and to make him known!
She is survived by one son, Douglas (Tammy) Bengston of Pingree Grove, IL; two daughters, Janice (Herb) Shafer of Fulton, IL, and Lara Kimmer of Bettendorf, IA; 7 grandchildren: Joshua (Teena) Bengston, Cassie Bengston, Jennifer (Randy) Green, Kimberly (Bill) Clark, Chad (Megan) Kimmer, Allison (Caleb) Mann, Mara (Scott) Peth, and Megan (David) Haas; 11 great grandchildren, Matthew Green, Juliana Clark, Lucas Clark, Jack Kimmer, Hattie Kimmer, Aaron Kimmer, John Peth, Waylon Peth, Silas Mann, Elijah Mann, Thomas Haas, Patrick Haas, Madeline Haas, Hailey Woods, and Austin Coffee; 1 brother, William Elliott (Nancy) Swigert of Grand Rapids, MN, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Julie Ann, a sister Janet, a great grandson Jacob, and her husband of 58 years, Larry.
