Ruth Marjorie Bossen's Obituary
Ruth Marjorie “Margie” Bossen, 87, of Bettendorf and formerly of Clinton, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at her residence at The Fountains, Bettendorf. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be held from 9 AM until the service hour at the funeral home on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
Margie was born May 21, 1928 in Mount Vernon, Illinois, the daughter of Paul and Ruby (Harmon) Gilbert. Ruth Marjorie Gilbert married Norbert Henry Bossen on May 1, 1948 in Clinton; he passed away January 2, 2010.
Margie was a Clinton High School graduate and attended the University of Iowa. She had been employed as a Nurse’s Aide at Mercy Hospital, was a home typist for Nielsen’s Clearing House, and was head of admitting at Jane Lamb Hospital, prior to retiring in 1979.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, P.E.O. Chapter KY, Sunoida, and was a past member of the Antiquer’s Group, The Junior Women’s Club, and Child Forum.
Margie’s greatest joy was spending time with her family, be it annual treks to northern Wisconsin, celebrating every family milestone, and always being “on call” to support and care for her family. A thread throughout her life was her artistic eye and creativity, from painting, pottery, dried floral designs, to her garden. In retirement, Margie and Norb enjoyed antiquing and working together in the beautiful Hilltop garden. The garden’s bounty inspired her many dried floral creations.
Margie is survived by two daughters: Linda (Brian) Kunkel of Bettendorf and Beth (Stephen) Haufe of Clinton; one son: Drew (Ann) Bossen of Iowa City, Iowa; grandchildren Adam (Kathryn) Kunkel, Daniel Kunkel, David (Sara) Haufe, Paul Haufe, Kathryn (Ryan) Habeger, and Douglas Bossen; great-grandchildren: Abigail Kunkel, Logan Kunkel, Harrison Norbert Kunkel, Charlie Habeger; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Betsy (Clinton) Blandford and her brother, Harmon (Leila) Gilbert.
Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice or First United Methodist Church, Clinton.
