Robert J. Waldorf's Obituary
Robert J. Waldorf, 85, of Clinton passed away Monday, March 8, 2021 at his home – Clinton.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 am, Friday March 12, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church – Clinton. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday evening at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory. Visitation will conclude at 7:00 pm with a time for sharing. Robert John Waldorf was born July 16, 1935 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Frances and Margaret (Krava) Waldorf. He was a 1954 graduate of Lyons High School. His class was the last graduating class. He then earned his Bachelors Degree in 1959 in Mechanical Engineering from Bradley University. He married Ethel Mary White on August 27, 1959 in Camanche, Iowa. He served in the National Guard for 8 years.
Bob worked for Clinton Corn later known as ADM in the Engineering Department. He retired from Ralston Purina in 2000. After retirement he enjoyed teaching a safety class at Clinton Community College. He was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Clinton, he served as a president, trustee, elder and taught Sunday School. He was an active father and enjoyed being a Boy Scout Leader and coaching little league. In addition to his volunteering he enjoyed time vacationing, taking bus trips, playing cards, boating, and fishing. He enjoyed working with his hands doing wood working and welding. More than anything he enjoyed time spent with his family and friends.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Ethel Mary Waldorf of Clinton; four children: Steve (Ellen) Waldorf of DeWitt, Mark (Brenda) Waldorf of Camanche, David (Sheila) Waldorf of Clinton and Karin (Mark) Applegate of Oxford, Florida; thirteen grandchildren: Nicole Andresen, Tara Soenksen, Kirsten Waldorf, Stephanie Phillips, Emilie VanDeventer, Robert and Austin Adams, Colin, Quentin, Ryan and Joshua Waldorf, and Brandon and Marcus Norem; step grandchildren: Chad, Mark and Jimmy Ladouceur; and seventeen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Joseph Waldorf, granddaughter Angela Adams, great granddaughter Sofia Waldorf and step granddaughter Tara Petersen.
