Robert Stapleton's Obituary
Robert J (Bob) Stapleton died in Tucson, AZ on March 10, 2009. Bob dropped anchor in life in Ft. Wayne, IN on January 9, 1922, son of Clarence and Eva (Grashoff) Stapleton. He earned a BA from Valparaiso University. He served in the Navy in the South Pacific in WWII, and retired with the rank of Captain from the Naval Reserves after 30-year career. Bob earned graduate degrees from the U. of Wisc. and U. of Mich. His career in economic development included positions with Commonwealth Edison in Chicago; Clinton Economic Dev. Co. in Clinton, IA; Cordova Ind. Park (IL); Illinois Valley EDC (IL); and Scioto EDC (OH). Preceded in death by wife Marilyn Jeane (Stinchfield), parents, and brother Clarence. Survived by daughters Jan (Joe Dwyer) of St. Paul, MN; Jill (Jim Schneden) of Tucson, AZ; son Guy (Jeannie) of Glencoe, IL; grandchildren Emma & Fritz Schneden, and Matt & Ellie Stapleton. The family extends its gratitude to Carestone Assisted Living and Pastor Jim of Tanque Verde Lutheran Church for their kindness. Also special thanks to dear friends Jim and Vicky Kuzel for their friendship and attention during Bob’s final years in Tucson.
