He served in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1954 and then served in the reserves for four additional years. He married Patricia A. Carber on July 28, 1954 at Lyon’s Methodist Church. Bob worked for DuPont in Clinton, Iowa from 1954 to 1979. Then in 1979 he moved to Wheatland, Wyoming and worked at Laramie River Basin Electric until he retired in 1996. In 1996 Bob and Pat moved back to the Midwest to be near their family and lived in LeClaire, Iowa.
Bob volunteered for many civic organizations such as Camanche Fire Department, Boy Scout Troop founder and leader, and was a lay leader at St. Mark's United Methodist Church. He was also a Grand Mason of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed reading, volunteering, tinkering in his shop, traveling, and wintering in Texas. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with family.
