Robert E. Petersen's Obituary
Robert E. Petersen, 84, of Clinton, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center North Campus – Clinton.
Private Family Services will be held. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. There will be no visitation. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Robert E. Petersen was born on October 29, 1929 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Carsten “Gus” and Mary (Obermiller) Petersen. He was a 1947 graduate of Clinton High School. He married Verna M. Fuller on April 9, 1950 in Clinton, Iowa.
Bob served in the Iowa National Guard from 1947-1959. He worked as a painter from 1948-1966. He then worked for Standard Brands/Nabisco as a paint maintenance foreman from 1966-1982. Then owned and operated the Color Wheel with his family from 1983-2009.
Bob was a member of the First United Methodist Church, enjoyed coaching little league baseball and was one of the builders of Honeywell Field. He was active with the YMCA Swim teams. He enjoyed his family’s activities including his grandson’s thespian activities and his son’s motorcycle drag racing events all around the country. He was involved and contributor to the Grand Easter Egg Hunt. He wanted to be wherever his family needed him to be.
Bob is survived by his wife: Verna of Clinton; two sons: Ricky (Sandy) Petersen of Derby, Kansas, and Eugene (Nancy) Petersen of Clinton; four grandchildren: Jennifer, Tom, Martha, and Bob; six great-grandchildren: Gavin, Emily, Blake, Canyon, Miriam, and Henry; sister-in-law: Virginia Petersen of Clinton, and brother-in-law: Harry (Kathy) Fuller of Arizona and many nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church or to the family.
