Robert Muhs' Obituary
Robert (Bob) Muhs passed away Friday, April 3rd, 2009 at Bluff Terrace in Clinton, Iowa.
He was born December 28, 1921 in Chicago, Illinois to Louis and Florence Powless Muhs. He attended grade school and his first two years of high school at St. Mary's in Clinton and graduated from Campion High School in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. He attended Iowa State University and the University of Iowa. He enlisted in the United States Army Air Forces in World War II and served in the China-Burma-India Theatre.
In 1943, he was united in marriage with Dorothea (Dottie) Husmann in Savannah, Georgia.
Robert worked for DeVry Corporation, Altec Service, and, for most of his career, Western Electric. In California, he was an integral part of Project Mercury, America's first man-in-space program, and later served as an engineer on various U.S. Air Force missile programs.
He is survived by his wife Dorothea and their three children:
Daniel (and wife Tracy) Muhs of Boulder, Colorado and their children, Zachary and Rachel
Laurie (and husband Amar) Chaker, of Vienna, Virginia and their children Yasmine (and husband Jake) Helminiak of Doylestown, Pennsylvania and Rachid Chaker of Arlington, Virginia
Janine (and husband Scott) McKorkle of Sammamish, Washington, and their son Nathan
There will be a private graveside burial in Albany, Illinois.
A celebration of Robert's life will be held this summer.
