Robert E. Housenga's Obituary
Robert E. Housenga, 81, of Clinton, passed away, Thursday, July 18, 2024 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics – Iowa City.
Funeral Services will be 11:30am, Monday, July 22, 2024 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Robert Eugene Housenga was born on September 3, 1942 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Menno and Anna (Otto) Housenga. He was a 1960 gradutate of Clinton High School and attended Clinton Community College and the University of Iowa. He served in the United States Army from 1965-1971. He married Lois Proud on November 2, 1963 in Clinton; she died March 23, 2007. He later married Sonja Young on June 27, 2009 in Clinton.
Bob was employed at DuPont for 37 ½ years retiring in 2000 as a business service manager.
Bob was a member of Crossview Church, the Clinton Eagles Club and the Clinton Hot Rod Club. He was proud of his 1969 Chevelle, enjoyed spending time in his timber hunting, trapping and finding ginseng. He also enjoyed trout fishing. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.
Bob is survived by his wife: Sonja of Clinton; three sons: Brent (Stacey) Housenga of Gilbert, Arizona, Daniel (Julee) Housenga of Eldridge, Iowa, and Kurt (Jill) Housenga of Clinton; 5 grandchildren, one great-grandson; two sisters: Carol Smith of Camanche, and Connie (Randy) Nielsen of Fulton; and several nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife.
