Vining Family - I was deeply saddened to hear of Rich’s passing. In reading the various memorials and tributes, there is no question that he lived an incredibly full life, leaving a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to know him. Rich was the bike mentor of my life and still is. We rode together for a couple of years and then separately after we started having kids. Although much stronger than I he always kept my pace except when we raced then I tried to keep up with him which I never could. Will think of Rich fondly as I climb the hills on the rest of my life.

Rich and I were roommates at the Delta Tau Delta house on MacArthur Street. It was a year filled with mischief, fun and educational success. Rich fit in well with the group of guys from Cambridge Illinois and we would get together periodically over the years. Mary and I will miss him and have sincere condolences for his family.
