Richard Keith Roberts was born August 5, 1955, in Savanna, Illinois, the son of Harold and Bernice (Ready) Roberts. He was a 1974 graduate of Preston High School. He married Judy Kemp on August 15, 1981, in Clinton, Iowa; she preceded him in death on November 21, 2018.
Ric worked at ADM as an electrician from 1982 until his retirement in 2016. He was a simple man with great depth; one who could talk “construction” and write eloquent poetry. If something needed to be fixed, he got it done. If he didn’t know how to fix something, he looked it up and taught himself how to do it. When he was younger, he enjoyed playing guitar, writing poetry, and riding motorcycles. More recently, he spent his time fishing with his brother Mark, working on classic cars, being with his children, and traveling with his partner Annis.
One thing was always clear: when Ric talked with his family and loved ones, he was not afraid to tell them he loved them.
Ric is survived by his children: Kim (Steve) Michaels of Everett, Washington, Matthew (Tammy) Harvey of Clinton, Emily Smith of Clinton, Jeremy (Sadie Beaudet) Roberts of Pemaquid, Maine, Jessica Roberts of Cedar Rapids, and Katherine “Katie” Joens of Thomson, Illinois; 13 grandchildren; brother: Mark Roberts of Joliet, Illinois; sister: Tina Roberts of Clinton; and partner Annis Bear of Preston; as well as many nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and siblings: Cheryl Shadle, Scott Roberts, and Karen Tracy.
