Richard D. Bourland Jr.'s Obituary
Richard Dean Bourland, Jr., 78, of Clinton, passed away Sunday, October 5, 2025, at Eagle Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clinton. There will be no memorial services.
Richard was born January 1, 1947, in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Richard and Josephine (Kocevar) Bourland, Sr. He married Marcia Diane Fair in Springfield, Illinois. Richard was an avid historian, having studied at Bradley University and the University of Notre Dame du Lac, where he earned his PhD in 1978. His dissertation was about the French Navy at the time of the War of the Austrian Succession. He held numerous professional memberships including the Society for French Historical Studies and the Illinois State Historical Society. Richard had several publications about events in Savanna, Illinois, and the surrounding area.
Richard taught for many years at Clinton Community College in Clinton, Iowa, as an adjunct instructor. He also taught at Scott Community College in Bettendorf, Iowa, and Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon, Illinois. In addition, Richard worked as a security guard at the Quad Cities Nuclear Generating Station in Cordova, Illinois.
He is remembered by fellow faculty members at Clinton Community College.
