Reynold E. Jurgersen's Obituary
Reynold E. Jurgersen, 84, of Clinton, passed away, Friday, August 28, 2015 at the Alverno.
Funeral Services will be 11:00am Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at Zion Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the Clinton AMVETS. Serving as pallbearers will be Ken Winters, John Lund, Dan McLaughlin, Tim Ingwersen, Kent Jurgersen, and Mike Jurgersen. Visitation will be from 9:30am to the service time Tuesday at the church. Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Reynold Edwin Jurgersen was born on July 5, 1931 in Teeds Grove, Iowa, the son of William and Delores (Lewis) Jurgersen. He was a 1950 graduate of Clinton High School. He was drafted in the United States Army in 1951 during the Korean War and served in Alaska until being honorably discharged in 1953.
Reynold married Marilyn Burde on September 19, 1964 at Zion American Lutheran Church – Clinton.
Reynold worked in downtown Clinton at Allen’s Tea Room as a baker for 10 years upon returning from the service. He then worked for 10 years at Paetz Super Value as a baker. In 1971 he bought Hein Bakery, selling it in 1994. He also worked at Eagles Foods and briefly at Econo Foods as a baker.
Reynold was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he volunteered by ushering for 40+ years, cooking the pork for the Zion Sauerkraut Supper for 30 years, baked cookies and delivered to shut-ins once retired. He enjoyed walking daily after retirement, bowling, and watching the Cubbies and the Hawkeyes.
Reynold is survived by his wife Marilyn of 51 years, two sons: Douglas Jurgersen and Steven (Cindy) Jurgersen both of Clinton, two brothers including his twin: Ronald (LaVonne) Jurgersen of Clinton, and Louis (Roberta) Jurgersen of Clinton; four nephews and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, a niece Karen Elzey, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Al (Betty) Rexstad.
Memorials can be made to Zion Lutheran Church or Wounded Warriors.
