Raymond Matyasse's Obituary
Raymond J. Matyasse, 87, of Camanche, passed away, December 27, 2014 at Mercy Living Center – South surrounded by family.
A Private Funeral will be at 1:00pm, Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at the Catholic Church of the Visitation – Camanche. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors being presented by the Camanche VFW. The Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory is in charge of arrangements. Raymond J. Matyasse, Sr., was born on May 13, 1927 in Dunmore, Pennsylvania, the son of John and Maria (Hafinec) Matyasse. He married Jean G. Mlyniec on January 9, 1953 at St. Joan of Arc Church in Lisle, Illinois. He was a veteran of the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He later graduate from St. Procopius College (now know as Illinois Benedictine University) in Lisle, Illinois.
Raymond worked as a production inventory control manager for many years at General Motors - Joliet, Illinois, Gilman Engineering – Janesville, Wisconsin, Stolper Industries – DeWitt, Iowa, American Air Fitter – Moline, Illinois, Clinton Corn Processing and Johnson metalcrafters in Clinton. As a long time security guard he was employed by Pinkerton at Hawkeye Chemical, Nestle Purina, and Lyondell. At one time he managed a drive-in theatre in Crystal Lake, Illinois. His last position was an attendant at Camanche Super Wash.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #0732, and a life long member of the Moose Lodge. He was an avid baseball fan of the New York Yankees, The New York Giants, and the Penn State Nitty Lions football team. He enjoyed playing golf and enjoyed attending the Clinton Lumberkings baseball games with his sons and daughters. Most recently he enjoyed quality time with his children and grandchildren and tending to his garden. He enjoyed most of all talking daily walks with his beloved dog Pepper.
Raymond is survived by his wife: Jean of Camanche; his children: Raymond J. (Sally) Matyasse, Jr., of Geneseo, Illinois, Jean Sabel of Crystal Lake, Illinois, Joseph Matyasse of Golden, Colorado, Kathy Jordan of Davenport, Diane Matyasse of Fulton, Thomas (Kristy) Matyasse of Camanche, Theresa (James) Bufkin of Seoul, South Korea, Matt (Janell) Matyasse of Camanche, and John Matyasse of DeWitt; 12 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; cousins: Anita (Robert) Quintan and Lisa Pinto of North Carolina; and his forever loyal dog: Pepper.
Raymond was preceded in death by his grandparents, his parents, and aunt: Ann (John) O’Miler, and uncle: John (Josephine) Hafinec.
Memorials in his name can be made to the Catholic Church of the Visitation – Camanche or the American Heart Association.
