Raymond Kelly's Obituary
Raymond J. ?Nook? Kelly, 89, of Clinton, died Thursday, February 21, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center, North Campus, Clinton.
Funeral Services will be 10:00am, Monday, February 25, 2008 at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Bobb Barrick officiating. Burial will be in the Springdale Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the Clinton AMVETS Post #28. Serving as pallbearers will be Samuel Kelly, Daniel Kelly, Greg Kelly, Brandon Kooi, Scott Kelly, and Tim Shinbori. Honorary pallbearers will be Devin Kelly, Dennie Holverson, and Dick Kelly. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00-5:00pm at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory.
Raymond James Kelly was born on November 1, 1918 in Grand Mound, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Helen (Pearse) Kelly. He married Nancy Ruth Bowers on May 31, 1943 in Las Vegas, Nevada; she died January 27, 2008.
Raymond was a graduate of Grand Mound High School. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army as a master sergeant and post office supervisor.
Raymond worked in the finishing department at DuPont for thirty years until retiring in 1979. He enjoyed dancing, fishing, played the saxophone and was the lead singer in the Gus Kelly Swing Band. Raymond is survived by two sons: Stephen (Cindy) Kelly of Camanche and David (Kathy) Kelly of Clinton; six grandchildren: Erin (Brandon) Kooi, Greg (Nadene) Kelly, Daniel (Esmé) Kelly, Nancy Kelly, Samuel Kelly and Devin Kelly; six great-grandchildren: Maddison, Logan, and Kennedy Kooi, Mackenzie, Kaelan, and David Kelly; one brother: Larry (Jo) Kelly of DeWitt; one sister-in-law: Irene Kelly of Naples, Florida; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Raymond was preceded in death by his wife Nancy, his parents, and one brother Robert.
The family requests that memorials be made to Mercy Dialysis Unit.
