Phyllis M. Petersen's Obituary
Phyllis M. Petersen, 93, of Clinton passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at her home.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 am, Saturday, December 3, 2022 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the service time at the funeral home. Phyllis Mae Kooi was born August 6, 1929 in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of William James and Catherine (Bigwood) Kooi. She attended Lyon High School. She married Donald Petersen on November 1, 1969 in Sterling, Illinois; he preceded her in death on January 9, 2021. Phyllis has had a number of jobs over the years, she worked as a waitress for many years, operated the switchboard at Jane Lamb Hospital, The Garment Factory Company, PFC and she did embroidery at Swiss Colony.
She enjoyed sewing and made many outfits, dolls and curtains for family over the years. She also loved crafting and collecting nicknacks such as geese and salt and pepper shakers.
Phyllis is survived by her two children: Tim Hensel of Clinton and Cathy (Larry) Melvin of Clinton; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three children: Jimmy Hensel, Martha O’Brien and Eddie Hensel, two brothers James and L. Eugene Kooi and two sisters Helen and Janice Kooi .
