Phyllis M. Johnson's Obituary
Phyllis M. Johnson, 94, formerly of Clinton, passed away, Monday, April 27, 2015 at her home in Preston.
Funeral Services will be 11:00am, Friday, May 1, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Clinton. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Dennis Denlinger, Mark Cueno, Pat Denlinger, Philip Denlinger, Jim Ingram, and Craig Flenker. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Denlinger and David McMullen. Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory is assiting with the arrangements. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 pm at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Preston, Iowa. Phyllis Marie Denlinger was born on April 16, 1921 in Zwingle, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Ruth (Hoerner) Denlinger. She was a 1937 graduate of Zwingle High School. After graduation she attended business school in Dubuque, Iowa. She married Cecil Johnson on June 4, 1944 in Zwingle, Iowa. He preceded her death on December 24, 1992.
Phyllis worked as a seamstress for the Clinton Garment Company for 39 years, retiring in 1986. She also worked for Montgomery Ward and Miles Savings Bank.
Phyllis was a member of the First Baptist Church in Clinton where she was an active member of the Quilting Club. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, going to the casino, and dancing with her husband at the Moose Lodge.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter Mary Gibson of Preston, Iowa; three grandchildren: Dr. Jennifer (Douglas) Petersen of DeWitt, Iowa, James (Kristi) Gibson of Muscatine, Iowa, and Joseph (Jessica) Gibson of DeWitt, Iowa; eleven great grandchildren: Katie, Kasi, Brandt, Raelynn, Megan, Klaire, Xander, CJ, Brady, Dresden, and Zoe; a brother: Allen (Marilyn) Delinger of Dubuque, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband Cecil, Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, a son-in-law Raymond Gibson, and her siblings: Lyle and Loraine Cueno, Martin and Jean Denlinger, and Bob and Grace Denlinger.
