Pearle M. Salter's Obituary
Pearle Maxine Salter, 98, of Clinton passed away Friday, December 13th. The daughter of Matilda and James Wilson, Pearle was born on June 9, 1921 in LaMoille, Iowa. She grew up and attended school in Eldon, Iowa, graduating in 1938. In 1941 she married William B. Salter in Yuma, Arizona and they moved to Los Angeles where they lived throughout the 1940’s. While in California, Pearle served with the Gray Ladies and worked as a potter’s apprentice for Ken’s of California Pottery. She and her husband returned to Iowa and eventually settled in Clinton in 1961.
Pearle continued volunteer work throughout most of her life and was employed at Potter’s Greenhouses before retiring. She had a passion for reading, gardening, traveling, music, art and especially enjoyed her grandchildren as they grew. Her sense of humor, adventurous spirit and spunky nature endeared her to both family and friends.
Pearle is survived by her two children: Larry (Jill) Salter and Lizzy (Mike) Niebuhr; four grandchildren: Ashley Niebuhr (Brian Hardy), Brian Niebuhr, Eric Salter (Jessica Jaskola) and Andrea Salter; one great granddaughter Kaitlyn Salter; special brother-in-law Howard Smith; and nieces and nephews, including a special niece Vicki (Smith) Riegel.
Preceding Pearle in death were her parents, husband, 2 sisters Shirley (Wilson) Smith, Irma (Wilson) Crow, one brother Billy Wilson, a special aunt Elizabeth Berry and a special nephew Jim Hayes.
She will forever be loved and missed by her family.
A celebration of life with family members will be held for Pearle. Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory assisted the family.
