Paul M. Cagley's Obituary
Paul M. Cagley, 88, of Fulton, passed away, Sunday, January 25, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center – North, Clinton, Iowa surrounded by his family.
A Funeral Mass will be 10:00am, Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the Clinton AMVETS. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00-7:00pm at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory.
Paul Malcolm Cagley was born on March 26, 1926 in Minneapolis, Minnesota the son of Paul C. and Velma (McCullough) Cagley. He was a 1944 graduate of Mason City High School. He then served in the United States Army during World War II from 1944-1946. After being honorably discharged he attended and graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in mechanical engineering. He married Joan Hingtgen on June 16, 1951 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Clinton.
Paul was employed as a mechanical engineer from 1952-1979 at Clinton Corn Processing /Standard Brands. He then became Chief Engineer at American Crystal Sugar in Moorehead, Minnesota retiring in 1993.
Paul was a member of Immaculate Conception – Fulton, a former Boy Scout Leader, a member of the Engineers Club and served on the Mercy Hospital Board of Directors for many years. He coached little league baseball, and enjoyed woodcarving. He also enjoyed spending time at the family cabin on Pelican Lake in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. Most of all he enjoyed lending a helping hand to his family and watching his grandbabies grow.
Paul is survived by his loving wife for 63 years Joan; his children: Laurence (Rebecca) Cagley of Clinton, Paula (Ben) Newman of Clinton, Steven (Krista) Cagley of Clinton, Robert (Susan) Cagley of Westminster, Colorado, and David Cagley of Omaha, Nebraska; twelve grandchildren: Michael (Jacqueline) Newman, Matthew (Allison) Newman, Marc (Sarah) Newman, Martin Newman, Shaun (Lindsay) Cagley, Lindsey Cagley, Kelsey Cagley, Megan (Michael) Abegg, Zachary Cagley, Jeffrey (Sandra) Cagley, Eric Cagley, and Gregory Cagley; six great-grandchildren: Benjamin, Andrew, Isla, Marshall, Lucas, and Maxwell; his sister: Shirley Haluska of Miami, Florida, his sister-in-law: Joyce (Robert) Jacobsen of Marion, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents and his brother: Edgar.
Memorials can be made to American Diabetes Association, Prince of Peace Catholic Church, or Immaculate Conception.
