Norma Simmons' Obituary
Norma J. Simmons, 72, of Clinton died Monday, April 12, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Clinton. Funeral services will be 1:00pm Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11:30am until the service hour at the funeral home. Cremation will follow the funeral services. Norma Jean Smith was born on May 8, 1937 in Galesburg, IL, the daughter of Edwin Lee and Helen Marie (Poland) Smith. She was a 1955 Galesburg High School graduate. Norma was a caregiver all her life both professionally as a mental health technician, and personally, caring for her parents for several years and the many children in her life, including those whom she fostered. She loved to play chess and backgammon. She was an artist, and enjoyed making things crafting, knitting, and crocheting. She is survived by her children: Melinda (David) James, Lucynda Rodriguez, and Angela Simmons, all of Clinton, Timothy (Carla) Simmons of Woodhull, IL, Sherrie McGlown, Rebecca Simmons, and Rose (Jerry) Cato, all of Galesburg, IL; 25 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren; 3 sisters: Patricia Henshilwood of Galesburg, IL, Sharon K. Shonkwiler of Florida, and Judy Reed of Rockford, IL; her loving pet companion Molly, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son James, one granddaughter Joy, 1 great granddaughter Desiré, and one brother Eddie Lee. Memorials may be made to the family.
