Naomi Schmidt's Obituary
Naomi S. Schmidt, 86, of DeWitt, died Sunday, September 28, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center, North Campus, Clinton. A Memorial Mass will be 11:30 am, Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Brownfield celebrating. Burial will follow at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30am to the mass time Wednesday at the church. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements. Naomi Sedalia Botsford was born on January 12, 1922 in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Mack and Elizabeth (Monner) Botsford. She married Julian Schmidt on October 25, 1943 in Springbrook, Iowa; he later died in December 2000. Naomi was a 1939 graduate of Dubuque Senior High School. Naomi was a legal secretary and tax accountant for over 35 years. She later was the director of the DeWitt Senior Citizens Meal Site. Naomi was a member of Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church, DeWitt, and St. Phillip and James Catholic Church in Grand Mound, and a trustee of the DeWitt Public Library. Naomi is survived by two daughters: Helene (John) Robinson of Riverdale, Iowa, and Julianne (Stan) Ewald of Phoenix, Arizona, and one son Stanley (Jan) Schmidt of DeWitt, Iowa; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; eight brother-in-laws and seven sister-in-laws and many nieces and nephews. Naomi was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, one sister, three sister-in-laws, three brother-in-laws and a granddaughter: Hannah. The family requests that memorials be made to Camp Courageous or Gilda’s Club.
