Nancy L. Carter, 73, of Camanche, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at The Alverno in Clinton, Iowa, surrounded by her loving family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 20, 2025, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the Masonic Lodge, 220 9th Avenue, Camanche, Iowa 52730.
Nancy Louise Hendren was born on June 1, 1952, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Phyllis (Bray) Hendren. She attended Camanche High School. Nancy married Stephen Sanders in 1972, and later married Clarence Carter in 1993. Clarence preceded her in death on March 2, 1997. Nancy was a dedicated and tireless worker. Throughout her life, she held a variety of roles including owning and operating Sanders Filter Queen Enterprises, and working for The Clinton Herald, International Paper, Walmart, Camanche Schools, and Clinton Schools. Her greatest joys in life were her family and friends. Nancy loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed puzzles and wasn't afraid to get her hands dirty-whether it was working on a car or planting flowers. She was lovingly devoted to the care of her daughter Jeannie and was affectionately known to many as "Fancy Nancy."
She is survived by her three children, Jeannie Weltzin of Clinton, Iowa, Jennifer (Robert) Edens of Camanche, Iowa, Stephen (Jenny) Sanders of Clive, Iowa, 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, her brother, Michael (Teresa) Hendren of Columbia, Missouri, 4 sisters, Sandy Payne of Ottumwa, Iowa, Kathy Porter of Camanche, Iowa, Beverly (Steve) Creamer of Ottumwa, Iowa, Connie (David) Hopwood of Brodhead, Wisconsin, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clarence, her son-in-law Merlin Weltzin, and her brother-in-law Leonard Porter.
Nancy's strength, humor, and love will be remembered always.
