Michael J. Williams' Obituary
Michael J Williams, 87 of Bryant Iowa passed away Thursday, September 4th, 2025 at Mercy One-Clinton.
A Masonic Blue Lodge service will be 2:00pm, Thursday September 11, 2025 at the Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory. A visitation will be from 1:00pm to the time of the service time at the funeral home. There will be a celebration of life held at the Copper Mill, Clinton (old Gills next to casino) following the service. Michael John Williams was born on December 19 1937 in Savanna Illinois, the son of Wallace and Mary (Switzer) Williams. He attended a one room school (Hickory Grove) K-8 then graduated from Mt. Carrol High School. He attend IBM School of engineering in Rockford Illinois afterwards enlisting in the United States Army from 1957 -1961 stationed for 2 of those years in Germany.
While in the Army Michael married Barbra (Johnson) and they later divorced. Michael then married Jacquline Wyndau she died in 2007.
Michael spent his entire working career in the mechanical/machinist world working with a passion. Michael spent his last 30 working years working for Starbuck Machine in Fulton Illinois where he was shop foreman retiring at the age of 72. He was a patriotic man who loved his country. He was an over 60-year member of Cyrus Masonic Lodge No. 188 in Mt. Carroll. He was an avid reader and loved crunching numbers. He also enjoyed car racing, mostly open wheel cars. In the late 60s and early 70s he and his brother owned formula 5000 race cars racing at most road courses around the United States and Canada. He was also a member of the Deere Valley Collectors Chapter of the Two-Cylinder Club where he was on the board and president at one time. During this time, he developed many wonderful friendships with others who loved restoring John Deere two-cylinder tractors. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Michael is survived by his children: Michael (Tammy) Williams, Jr. of Seattle Washington, Jeff (Janet) Williams of Bryant Iowa, Michelle Copper of Burlington Iowa, four grandchildren,10 great grandchildren and his brother: Dennis (Linda) Williams of Birmingham, Alabama. He was proceeded in death by his parents, his wife, a brother, and son-in-law.
