Michael Clemence's Obituary
Michael N. Clemence, 89, of Clinton, died Friday, March 6, 2009, at Mercy Living Center South, in Clinton. Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:30am, Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at Prince of Peace Parish Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the Clinton AMVETS Post#28. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandchildren: John Paul Fitzgerald, Patrick Clemence, Allison Leu, Noreen Newberry, Jennifer Rittmer, Sarah Gossard, and Kalyn Massee. Visitation will be Monday, March 9, 2009 from 4:00pm till 8:00pm at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home, with a 4:00p.m. Vigil service and a Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Chalice Service at 4:30p.m. Michael N. Clemence was born on December 22, 1919 in Chicago, Illinois the son of Martin and Elizabeth (Fritz) Kuhn. He married Helen Cleppe on January 30, 1940 in Clinton, Iowa; she died September 18, 2002. Michael joined the CCC camps in Wisconsin during the Depression; he later joined the United States Navy during World War II where he was an Aircraft engine instructor in the South Pacific. Michael was a Supervisor for Collis Company for sixteen years, until retiring in 1983. He was also employed part time with Snell-Zornig Funeral Home for twenty years. He was currently working part time for Jewel Osco Michael was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish, a member and Past Grand Knight of St. Edwards’s Council #707 Knights of Columbus, a 4th Degree member of Loras Assembly #260, a member of Clinton AMVETS Post#28, the American Legion of Rockwell, Iowa, the Clinton Moose Lodge #363, a member and Past President of Odeon Club, and a member of the Clinton Bowling Association. Michael is survived by one son: Michael (Gloria) Clemence of Clinton, two daughters: Donna (John) Fitzgerald of Clear Lake, Iowa, Francie (Alan) Jahn of Altoona, Iowa, seven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Michael is preceded in death by his loving wife Helen, his parents, one sister, and three brothers. Memorials can be made to the Prince of Peace Parish.
