Matthew G. Zornig's Obituary
Matthew G. Zornig, 52, of Marietta, Pennsylvania, formerly of Clinton, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
A private graveside service will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025, at Springdale Cemetery in Clinton, where Matt will be laid to rest beside his father. The Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
Matthew Gene Zornig was born on January 6, 1973, in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Dennis and Susan (Baker) Zornig. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1991 and went on to earn a degree in computer science from the University of Iowa.
Matt worked as a computer programmer in Chicago, where he enjoyed living just three blocks from Wrigley Field. (It’s rumored he may have played hooky to catch a few day games.) He later moved to Iowa City, where he worked for Verizon and ACT. Eventually, Matt followed his passion and relocated to Pennsylvania to co-found a small brewery with his best friend. Hell in a Bucket Brewery—named in tribute to the Grateful Dead—opened in Wrightsville, PA in December 2019, and recently moved to a larger location in Marietta, PA.
Matt was a devoted fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, and Green Bay Packers. He had a deep love for reading, an eclectic taste in music, and a fondness for British comedy and science fiction. He embraced the laid-back spirit of "The Dude" and brought humor and warmth to those around him. His presence will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his mother, Susan Zornig of West Palm Beach, Florida; his sister, Jennifer (Quintin) Harris of Wayzata, Minnesota; and three nephews: Keegan, Jack, and Finn Harris. He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Zornig, and his grandparents.
Memorials may be directed to The Iowa Wave Shirt, supporting the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
