Mary Jo Witt's Obituary
Mary Jo Witt, 93, of Clinton passed away, Sunday, February 18, 2024 at Bickford.
A Celebration of Mary’s life for family and close friends will be Saturday, February 24, 2024 from 1:00-4:00pm at the Clinton Moose Lodge. A private burial will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery – Camanche. The Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family.
Mary Jo was born in Clinton on November 23,1930 to Frankie and Orville “Happ” Krebs.
Mary lived in the close community of south Clinton for most of her life. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1948. On October 28, 1950, she married Charles E Witt. Chuck passed away at age 77 and Mary missed him every day of her remaining life.
Mary’s first job was at KROS. Although she worked for a short time at Nielsen’s “counting coupons” in her fifties, she was a homemaker all her life.
Mary was a bowler. Her women’s team won first place in the 1969 WBA city tournament, and she was in women’s and mixed leagues for decades at both “The Rec” and Plaza lanes.
Chuck and Mary loved to fish and took many trips to lakes across Minnesota and Wisconsin with friends and later, with grandchildren. She was a die-hard Cubs fan and one of her favorite vacations was to Cooperstown, NY to see the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Mary loved family get-togethers. Parties and weddings were her delight, and she could often be found dancing in the middle of the floor with or without a partner.
Mary is survived by her son Jim, his wife Andrea of Clinton. Grandchildren Kathy (Scott) Parker, Cedar Rapids, Sandy (Nathan) Twedt, Kouts IN, Joseph (Robin) Witt, West Des Moines and Elizabeth (Steven) Mell, Batavia, Il and great grands Sydney and Kennedy Parker, Jenna, Alyssa and Ben Twedt, Helen and Noelle Witt and Aidan and Lydia Mell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter Sue Sirvid, son in law: Stanley “Chuck” Sirvid, Jr., sisters: Arlene Lueders and Nellie Hartig and an infant grandson, Bennett James Witt.
