Mary I. Root's Obituary
Mary I. Root, 98, of Thomson passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at home surrounded by her family.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 am, Saturday, August 29, 2020 at the Law Jones Funeral Home in Thomson. Visitation will be from 9:30 am until the service time at the funeral home. Face masks and social distancing will be required. Burial will be in the Lower York Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory – Funeral Director staff member is part of the family. Mary Isabelle Wagner was born August 4, 1922 in Thomson, Illinois, the daughter of Ben and Maude (Mitchell) Wagner. She was a 1940 graduate of Thomson High School. She married John “Joe” Root on April 17, 1948 in Mt. Carroll, Illinois; he preceded her in death on January 10, 1984.
Mary worked for Ice Cooling later known as GE in Morrison and she worked for Smith Royal Blue Grocery in Thomson. She was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, needle work and fishing at the Thomson Causeway. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, playing cards, Yahtzee and spending time with her family.
Mary is survived by her two children: Allan Root of Thomson and Karen Tack of Clinton; three grandchildren: Craig (Jami) Tack of Fulton, Melissa (Aaron) Bitner of Clinton and Sarah (August) Buchhalter of Frederick, Maryland; three great grandchildren: Trevor Bitner, Cara and Brandon Tack; brother-in-law: Tom (Lydia) Root of Savanna, sister-in-law: Margaret Root of Thomson; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and her brother: Bill Wagner.
