Mary A. Nier's Obituary
Mary A. Nier, 96, of Clinton, passed away, Monday, February 2, 2015 at Mercy Living Center – South.
A Funeral Mass will be 11:00am Thursday, February 5, 2015 at Prince of Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00am to the mass time Thursday at the church. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Mary Ann Blessington was born on August 22, 1918 in Sumner, Iowa, the daughter of Herbert and Jennie (Costello) Blessington. She married Wayne R. Nier on November 15, 1947 at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Clinton; he died October 25, 2008.
She was a graduate of Charlotte High School.
She was employed at the Clinton Garment Factory for 25 years retiring in 1983.
She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish and active at the Clinton Moose Lodge. She enjoyed reading especially Danielle Steel, visiting the Mississippi Belle II, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons: Timothy (Deborah) Nier of DeKalb, Illinois, and Thomas Nier of Clinton, Iowa; one daughter: Teresa (Jamie) Walker of Harvard, Illinois; five grandchildren: Dustin (Heather) Freyer, Brittny Freyer, Andrew Nier, Aaron Nier, and Shane Nier; two great-grandchildren: Ryne & Isaac Freyer; several nieces and nephews and sister-in-laws: Maxine Blessington of Clinton, Donna (Howard) Knutson of Pella, Iowa, Jewell Nier of San Antonio, Texas and brother-in-law Rol (Clarite) Neer of San Antonio, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter in infancy, six brothers, and one sister.
The family requests that memorials be made to Mercy Home Care/Hospice.
