Mary A. Grothusen's Obituary
On Tuesday, January. 30, 2024, Mary Anita Grothusen, age 75, of Clinton, Iowa died peacefully at Genesis East in Davenport, Iowa. Mary was born in Clinton Iowa on November 28th, 1948, the daughter of Leon and Verla (Webb) Wynkoop. She graduated from Clinton High School. She married Michael Grothusen on May 24,1997. She worked at Quality Concrete for many years in Clinton, Iowa. A Celebration of Life service for family and friends will be held at a later date.
Mary was best known for her competitive nature on the golf course, her love of hosting parties for all her family and friends, spending countless hours making barbeque chicken for a crowd, and her unconditional kindness. Mary was someone who everyone could count on regardless of what she personally had going on. Mary was passionate about all things Iowa sports and enjoyed cheering on the Hawkeyes and her kids as they attended the University of Iowa. Mary was always available to talk on the phone with her grandkids about their latest activities. If you remember one thing about Mary, let it be her big heart and the way her love brought together a family of all those around her.
Mary was preceded in death by her son Andrew Rempfer and her sister Veva (Wynkoop) Richman. She Is survived by her husband Michael Grothusen of Clinton, Iowa; Daughter Melisa Rempfer of Lawrence, Kansas and her children Meredith and Benjamin; Son Paul (Ellen) Rempfer and their children Gerrit and Jacob of Grant, Grant, Alabama; Daughter-in-Law Becky Rempfer and her children Hayden, Alexander and Kinnick of Cresco, Iowa; Brother Wayne Wynkoop of Laguna Niguel, California; Sister Linda Portz of Camanche, Iowa Nancy Gustin of Clinton, Iowa and stepdaughter Rose (Grothusen) Pauls.
