Mary Ann Marcella Cunningham's Obituary
Mary Ann Cunningham of Moline, IL passed away in her daughter’s home on Friday, June 21, 2024 surrounded by loved ones. Born February 23, 1937 in Jasper, Indiana into the loving embrace of Harold and Margaret Bettag and her four older siblings. Her middle name, Marcella, means “full of grace” and “strong”. This defined our mother. Family was the center of her life growing up and carried thru to her six children who have many fond memories of their time with family in Southern Indiana.
During the late 1950s Mary Ann loved going to dance halls with friends, and met her future husband, Carl W Cunningham, an Air Force military man on leave. They married August 1961. Life together settled in the small town of Crane, Indiana where their family expanded. A move to Moline, Illinois brought new career opportunities. Once her six children were all in school, she began a twenty year career at K-Mart in Rock Island, IL. She enjoyed the friends she made and working in the domestics department.
Later in life Mary Ann really enjoyed playing Rummy 500, watching Wheel Of Fortune with family and drinking Dr. Pepper. We loved making her smile and laugh.
Mary Ann was the last surviving sibling. She leaves behind her children Terry Cunningham (Andrea St Claire) of Moline, IL; Debbie Field (Jeff) of Simi Valley, CA; Betty Johnston (Ron) of Clinton, IA; Andy Cunningham of St Charles, MO; Nancee Malone (Rick) of Camanche, IA; Janice Cook (Chris) of Bowen, IL; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her siblings Jerome Bettag, Virlee Gunselman, Betty Hoppenjans and Viola Vaal; and her grandson, Matthew Jacob Malone.
We would like to thank the doctors, nurses, our “On Call” Pharmacist, CNAs, hospice nurses and staff who cared for her, but especially her daughter Nancee and her husband who moved mountains for her during her final year. Mary Ann’s final resting spot will be on Arsenal Island, Rock Island, IL beside her husband. Services at Rock Island Arsenal will take place at 11:00AM Friday, June 28, 2024. Snell-Zornig Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements and online condolences may be expressed at snellzornig.com.
