Marvin Ohsann's Obituary
Marvin D. Ohsann, 87, of Fulton, died Saturday, October 17, 2009, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa. Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:30am, Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Entombment will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00-7:00pm at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory. Marvin Dean Ohsann was born on October 4, 1922 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Martin and Rose (Hammond) Ohsann.. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School as class valedictorian in 1939. He attended Loras College. He entered the United States Army in 1942 serving in World War II. During the war he participated in the D-Day invasion of Normandy, France and the Battle of the Bulge. He achieved the rank of Sergeant in the Supply Corp. While in the Army he attended the University of Arkansas. Marvin married Marian Irene Delaney (St. Mary’s High School salutatorian in 1939) on September 8, 1943; she died in 1983. He married Patricia McNertney-Roushar on August 10, 1991 in Clinton. Marvin was employed with DuPont for 52 years. He worked his way up through Production, Accounting and Purchasing to become Business Services Superintendent retiring on July 31, 1993. After retiring from DuPont he was the Human Resources Manager at McEleney’s Motor Company. Marvin was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, a former member of the St. Patrick’s Board of Trustees, and served the Clinton Chamber of Commerce in the early 1970’s on the board of directors and as Past President. He was honored as the Chamber’s Business Leader of the Year. He served as a director and Chairman of the Clinton Development Company, five years as a member of the 7th Iowa Judicial Commission, a longtime member and worker for the Iowa Taxpayers Association, and a chairman of the Van Allen Foundation in Clinton. He served on numerous fund-raising drives for the United Way serving as a campaign chairmanHe was a past board member of the former hospitals and local colleges, receiving the Mount St. Clare College award for Distinguished Service in 1991. He was also Past President of the Clinton Country Club, the Clinton Area Development Corporation, and the River City Chamber of Commerce. Marvin is survived by his wife: Pat of Fulton, Illinois, one daughter: Mary Victoria Ohsann of Ft. Meyers, Florida, one son: John Timothy (Kathy) Ohsann of New Fairfield, Conneticut; one step-son: Daniel (Pat) Roushar of East Lansing, Michigan; four step-daughhters: Mary Pat (Rolf) Stavig of Wheaton, Illinois, Meg (Paul) McLaughlin of West Des Moines, Iowa, Molly (Doug) Dunham of Houston, Texas, and Maureen Roushar of Camanche, many grandchildren, his best friend: Warren McEleney, and the Birthday Club. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and one son Marvin who died in 2002. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Clinton Humane Soceity or Prince of Peace Parish.
