Martha Benson's Obituary
Martha F. Benson, 83, of Clinton, died Friday, February 1, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center, North Campus, Clinton.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 am, Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at Evangelical Free Church with Rev. Thomas Loyola officiating. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons Mark Burggraaf, Nathan Burggraaf, Todd Metzger, Russ Melchert, Bud Benson, Rob Benson, Will Benson, and Harold Benson. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory.
Martha Faye Berger was born on December 30, 1924 in Toledo, Iowa, the daughter of Benjamin Alonzo (Lonnie) and Thelma Rose (Youngman) Berger. She married Paul A. Benson on June 17, 1944 in Toledo, Iowa; he later died November 24, 1982.
Martha was a 1943 graduate of Toledo High School. She owned and operated Benson Oil with her husband for 28 years.
Martha was a member of the Evangelical Free Church where she held many offices, taught Sunday School, a youth sponsor, church librarian, deaconess and a member of the Gideon Bible Association.
Martha is survived by three daughters: Linda (Ralph) Tanner of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Sharon (Jon) Burggraaf of Clinton, and Mary Metzger of Fulton, Illinois; one son: Stephen Benson of Fulton; 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren two brothers Donald (Jenny) Berger of Fairfax, IA, Marion (Faye) Berger of Traer, Iowa, one sister: Ruth (Gerald) Larson of Marshalltown, Iowa:
Martha is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul, one brother Merle, one granddaughter: Hope, a great-grandson: Louis Schumacher and her son-in-law: Fred Metzger.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Evangelical Free Church or the Gideon Bibles.
