Marilyn was born May 7, 1929 in DeWitt, IA the daughter of John Wilfred “Bill” and Melba Helene (Walrod) Clark.
She graduated from DeWitt High School in 1946 and from Stephens College with a degree of Associate in Arts for millinery and fashion in 1948. Marilyn’s plans to continue her college education changed when she met WWII Marine veteran Glen Stankee and they married later in 1948. They lived in Wheatland, raising four children: Brent (1950), Jill (1951) and twins, Glen and Gail (1953). Once the kids were in high school Marilyn continued her education, including Clinton Community College, Marycrest (BA Cum Laude) and Scott Community College and earned her Master of Science Degree in Education in 1983 from Western Illinois University.
Marilyn moved to Clinton and was employed for several decades by the State of Iowa, serving the County of Clinton through Homemaker Services and Child Protective Services.
She traveled the world with her partner Donald Cousins from the Pacific Islands, Alaska, and the Panama Canal, to Columbia, Russia and many countries in Europe and she was the mother of many cats and dogs.
Preceding her in death is her son Brent. Surviving is her sister, Phyllis Elwood of DeWitt, her three children, six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Hers is a life well-lived.
Memorials may be made to the Clinton Humane Society, Compassus Hospice or Shriner’s Children’s Research Hospital.
