Margaret Jorgensen's Obituary
Margaret J. Jorgensen, 98, of Clinton, died Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at Harbor Crest Nursing Home, Fulton, Illinois. Funeral Services will be 10:30am, Saturday, June 20, 2009 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Nesbitt officiating. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:30am to the service time at the funeral home. Margaret Jacobs was born on March 18, 1911 in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Catharina (Stelling) Jacobs. She married Walter Jorgensen on August 5, 1931 in Davenport, Iowa; he later died September 16, 1993. Margaret attended the Davenport Schools and was a 1927 graduate of Brown’s Business College in Davenport. Margaret owned and operated Jorgensen’s Appliance with her husband Walt for 30 years, retiring in 1976. Margaret was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served as deaconess and a Sunday School teacher. She served on the board of the Associate Benevolent Society where she was treasurer and finance chair for many years. A over 60 year member of Girl Scouts having served as troop leader, Council Treasurer for both Clinton and the area, was on the committee in the change over from the city of Clinton Girl Scouts to the Area Council. She was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star #65 and served as its Worthy Matron in 1952, and was a member of the Shrine Auxilary Daughters of the Nile. She was also a member of PEO, Samaritan Auxiliary, 55 Alive and Plus 60. Margaret is survived by two daughters: Betty (Ralph) McLarnan of Venice, Florida, and Janet (Michael) Thomas-Savino of Punta Gorda, Florida, 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother: Albert, a sister: Betty, and a grandson: Robert McLarnan. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Harbor Crest Nursing Home or Genesis Hospice.
