Marcia Lynn Sloppy was born April 2, 1942 in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Frank Lafe and Helen Anita (Rasmussen) Sloppy. She was a 1960 graduate of Clinton High School and attended Clinton Academy of Beauty. She married Howard Joseph Keefer on April 22, 1961; he preceded her in death on February 16, 2026. Marcia worked as a Beauty Operator for many years, co-owning Magic Mirror Beauty Shop on North 2nd Street. She also worked at Alden’s Cafe.
Marcia and Gus were members and married at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church and St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clinton. She came from a musical family and started her life with lots of music; singing along with the Barbershop and Jazz music. She continued this love of music singing in church and with the beloved Clintones. She and Gus enjoyed being part of different card clubs over the years. She enjoyed weekend getaways with her husband to casinos and watching classic movies. She had a love for shopping, crafting, diamond art, decoupage and attending local craft shows. Marcia was always eager and willing to try new things. One of her favorite things to do was to “be the foreman of the back yard” where she would point and tell Gus what he should be doing and what yard work and landscaping needed to be done. More than anything Marcia loved her family and time spent with them. She was a devoted wife and supported Gus in his many union duties.
She was an active member of the Clinton County Democrats, a central committee member, and was inducted into the Clinton County Democrat Hall of Fame.
Marcia is survived by two children: Anita (Joseph) Hayes of Clinton and David (Peggy) Keefer of Clinton; grandchildren: Audrey (Brett) Cram, Nina (David) Barker and Kallyn, Emersyn and Griffen Keefer; great grandchildren: Oliver Cram, Amelia Cram and Levi (Abi) Barker; great great grandchildren: Ashton and Lincoln Barker; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Sharon Dee (Ken) Reed and grandson Chad Hayes.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Clinton Area Showboat Theater.
