Lyle G. Williams' Obituary
Lyle G. Williams, 89 of Clinton, passed away, Monday, April 29, 2024 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics – Iowa City, Iowa.
Memorial Services will be 3:00pm, Friday, May 10, 2024 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Visitation will be from1:00pm to the service time Friday at the funeral home. After the service, all are welcome back to the community room at the Regency Independent Living Residence at 839 13th Ave North, Clinton, IA for cake and coffee.
Lyle George Williams was born on March 2, 1935 in Beach, North Dakota, the son of Clarence “Roy” and Irene “Margaret” (Amundson) Williams. He was a graduate of Sidney High School in Montana and graduated from Montana State College in Bozeman, Montana. He married Marilyn Anderson on May 19, 1962 in Dagmar, Montana.
Lyle was an ammunition inspector for the federal government working at various Army Depots during his long career. He and his family lived all over the US, including Savanna, IL, Herlong, CA, Pueblo, CO, Texarkana, TX, Hanover, IL, Sherrard, IL, and Huntsville, AL. He also spent a year in South Korea and the family lived four years in Okinawa and Japan. He finally settled at the Regency Independent Living in Clinton, Iowa. Lyle retired as a civilian for the Army in 1993 with 30 years of dedicated service with the government.
Lyle was active and a founding boardmember of the QCCA club, and was active with the Frye Lake Sportsmans Club, and a member of the Sherrard Lutheran Church. Lyle had a strong commitment to community and could be counted on to help anyone in need; family, friend or total stranger. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be much missed by all who knew him.
Lyle is survived by his wife: Marilyn of Clinton; three children: DeeAnn (David) Haight of Thomson, Illinois, Kelly Williams of Viola, Illinois, and Bruce (Rochelle) Williams of Eldridge, Iowa; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and his brother: Keith (Marika) Williams of Beaverton, Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother: Neil and a sister-in-law: Joann
