Lucille Bethel's Obituary
Lucille Bethel, 95, of Clinton, Iowa, died December 29, 2018, at the Alverno, Clinton. Private family funeral services will be held at Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory January 2, 2019. Burial will be at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Online condolences are welcome at snellzornig.com. Pallbearers will be: Tyler Bethel, Nathan Bethel, Cory Svenson, Chris Thomson, Jerry Moehr and Terry John Moehr. Honorary Pallbearer will be Richard Moehr.
Lucille was born December 5, 1923, the daughter of Albert and Theresa (Rannfeldt) Moehr. She received her associates degree from Northern Illinois State Teacher’s College DeKalb, Illinois, and her Bachelor’s degree from Marycrest College in Davenport, Iowa. She married James R. Bethel, March 3, 1945, in Brooklyn, New York; he died May 5, 2003.
Lucille taught for 31 years, primarily as a junior high math teacher in Preston, Iowa. She was a member of the National Education Association, the Iowa State Education Association, former member of Zion Lutheran Church, current member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and the Preston American Legion Auxiliary.
Lucille enjoyed playing in her bridge clubs, sewing, traveling with James in their motor home and helping children.
She is survived by four children. Sons, Terry (Connie) Bethel of Breese, Illinois; Perry (Barb) Bethel of Bondurant, Iowa; Daughters, Pearl (Glen) Svenson of Clinton; Twila Bethel of Clinton.
Four grandchildren. Tyler (Aubree) Bethel, Nathan (Jessica) Bethel, Shauna (Chris) Thomson, and Cory Svenson. Nine great grandchildren. Graham, Tenley and Teagan Bethel; Tori, Kyli and Brynnlee Bethel; Logan, Evan and Dylan Thomson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a brother.
Memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Clinton.
