Lorene E. Hammann's Obituary
Lorene E. Hammann, 80, of Clinton, passed away, Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at the Alverno.
Memorial Services will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Zion Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00-7:00pm at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Following the visitation the body will be cremated. Lorene Espe was born on March 25, 1934 in Viroqua, Wisconsin, the daughter of Iver and Etta (Mills) Espe. She was a 1952 graduate of Readstown High School. She also attended Vocational Business School in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. She married Paul Hammann on August 11, 1956 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin
Lorene was a homemaker and also did clerical work for Dairyland Power in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, and for the Bettendorf Community Schools for 17 years.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who dearly enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was an exceptional seamstress and an avid gardener. Lorene never met a stranger and had an infectious love for people.
Lorene was a member of Zion Lutheran Church serving on its fellowship and worship committees. She had been a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Bettendorf serving on the Altar Guild and with Vacation Bible School. Lorene was also actively involved in volunteering for many years for Mobile Meals and tutored students at Whittier Elementary School.
Lorene is survived by her husband: Paul of Clinton; three daughters: Susan (Kevin) Dunne of Luling, Louisiana, Linda (Mike) Gordon of Goose Lake, Iowa, and Joann Hammann of Hudson, Florida; 6 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren, and sisters-in-law: Mary Espe of Rockville, Maryland, Harriet Eyler and Ann Hammann of Martinsburg, West Virginia and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Conrad and Mary Ann Hammann of Shepherdstown, West Virginia and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
Lorene was preceded in death by her parents and her mother -in-law and father-in-law, Harry and Carmen Hammann; her brother and sister-in-law, Norman and June Espe; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Wilson and Mary-Jo Orr, and brothers-in-law, Bruce Eyler and Edward Hammann.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Pastor Jen Henry and the Alverno Staff for their support in her final days.
