LeRoy Thompson's Obituary
LeRoy E. Thompson, 85, of Clinton, Iowa, died Saturday, September 29, 2012 at his home. Mass of the Christian burial will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 9:30 until the service hour at church. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory assisted the family with arrangements. LeRoy was born May 17, 1927 in Clinton, the son of Earl and Katherine "Tootie" (Lennertz) Thompson. He was a Clinton High School graduate. LeRoy was a WWII United States Navy Veteran. He married Wilma Hagberg August 16, 1952 in Clinton, Iowa. He was employed as a draftsman and design engineer at Clinton Corn Processing for over 40 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the EAA, Experimental Aircraft Association for 50 years, he built his own airplane, The Mong Sport, and had his commercial pilot's license and flew for over 25 years. He was a member of the Tag-A-Long Trailer Club, enjoyed motorcycling and was a member of the Clinton Engineer's Club. Survivors include his wife, Wilma of Clinton; children, Dave (Deborah) Thompson of Clinton; Paul (Mary) Thompson of Sherrill, IA and Ann Marie (Allen Bott) Thompson of Oshkosh, WI; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert. Memorials may be made to Prince of Peace Catholic Church.
