LeRoy Schoenig Jr.'s Obituary
LeRoy Schoenig, Jr., 89, of Clinton, passed away, Sunday, January 29, 2017 at Mercy North, Clinton. Services will be held Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 11:00AM at Zion Lutheran Church, Clinton. Visitation will be held from 9:00AM until the service hour at the church. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family with the services. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery, with military honors being conducted by the Clinton AMVETS. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jason Johnson, Joseph Johnson, Kurt Behrens, Joshua Engelkins, Tyler Carson and Christopher Carson.
LeRoy was born April 2, 1927 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of LeRoy and Florence (Claussen) Schoenig, Sr. He was a 1945 Clinton High School graduate and attended Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois for two years. LeRoy married Joan Heath October 23, 1949 in Clinton.
LeRoy was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran.
LeRoy was employed at DuPont for more than 30 years, retiring in 1979.
He was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, serving on the Church Council and running the soundboard. He was an active member of the Gideon’s, serving as president for several years.
Survivors include wife, Joan; daughters, Sue (Dick) Ostert of Maquoketa, Iowa; Sandy (Mark) Dreger of Weston, Wisconsin and Sheila (Kevin) Carson of Savannah, Georgia; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ronald and sister, Margaret.
