LeRoy Mohr's Obituary
LeRoy A. Mohr, 86, formerly of Clinton and Miles, Iowa, died March 10, 2009 in Redwood City, CA. Memorial services will be 10:00am, Monday, March 30, 2009 at Chancy Lutheran Church with Rev. Fred Schauer officiating. Following the services a lunch will be served at the church. Burial will be in Miles Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday 3:00-7:00pm at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory. Mr. Mohr was born May 4, 1922 in Clinton to Anton C. Mohr and Margaret Lass Mohr. He married Myrna F. Thomsen on April 22, 1943 in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from Clinton High School and was initially employed at City National Bank, Clinton. During World War II he served in the US First Air Force. Following service he was employed at the Lost Nation office of the First Trust & Savings Bank, Wheatland, Iowa, and later at the Miles Savings Bank, Miles, where he served as CEO from 1950 to his retirement in 1979. He was active in the Jackson County Bankers Association and served a term as president. He was a former chairman of Group Eight of the Iowa Bankers Association and served a term on the association’s Council of Administration. He was a former member of the Miles Consolidated School Board, and was instrumental in the building of the Miles Elderly Housing units. He was formerly a member of Spencer-Cook Post of the American Legion, of Chancy Lutheran Church, Clinton, and of St. John Lutheran Church, Preston. He was a life-long golf enthusiast. Mr. Mohr survived Myrna, his wife of 64 years. His sisters and brothers, Florence Lund, Margaret Younghusband, Raymond Mohr and Leonard Bruce Mohr, also predeceased him. Survivors include a son and three daughters, Richard (Jennifer) of Palo Alto, CA, Karen (Fred) Whyte of Virginia Beach, VA, Barbara (Lynn) Conner of Guadalajara, Mexico, and Cheryl Mohr of Fresno, CA. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be given to the American Heart Assoc., the Alzheimer’s Assoc. or Chancy Lutheran Church.
