Leroy Hammond's Obituary
Leroy A. Hammond, 87, of Clinton died Saturday, July 23, 2011 at Eagle Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Cremation rites have been accorded and there will be no local services. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory assisted the family with the arrangements. Leroy Alexander Hammond was born on October 24, 1923 in Mound Bayou, Mississippi, the son of J.H. and Amy (Barber) Hammond. He married Julie Lee and she preceded him in death in February 2006. He was employed as an assembly worker at the Chrysler plant in Detroit, Michigan until retiring. He was a United States Army veteran. Leroy served overseas for 15 months with the 1321st Engineers Regiment in France, Germany, Okinawa, South Pacific, and England. He performed all types of general rigging work on military construction. He raised and moved heavy equipment and used such equipment as rope, steel cable, chains, hooks, snatch blocks, pulleys, axe, sledge, wrenches, knife and other small tools. He is survived by one nephew, and a host of cousins, friends and residents at Eagle Point. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
