LeRoy Card's Obituary
LeRoy F. Card, 92, of Follets, died Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at the Sarah Harding Home, Clinton. Funeral Services will be 1:00pm, Friday, November 20, 2009 at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church with Dr. Don Batz officiating. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Todd Card, Marc Seibel, Jennifer Winters, Lindsey Card and David Dohse. Visitation will be Friday from 11:00am to the service time at the church. The Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements. LeRoy Francis Card was born on September 2, 1917 in Vandalia, Illinois, the son of Roy Lee and Sue (Frailey) Card. He married Helen Card on June 2, 1940 in Clinton, Iowa; she died April 9, 2007. LeRoy was a graduate of Rock Falls High School. He was a engineer with the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for over 50 years. He also farmed outside of Folletts from 1957 until his retirement. He also owned and operated a bait shop in Camanche from the mid 1940’s until 1957. LeRoy and his wife became avid motor home adventurers through the years and as time permitted traveled extensively around the country, eventually wintering in both Texas and Florida. He was a 50-year member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, a member of the Camanche Masonic Lodge, and Clinton Scottish Rite Bodies, and a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He enjoyed fishing all over the country with his nephew, raccoon hunting, and enjoyed farming. He is survived by three sons: Bob (Shirley) Card of Folletts, Iowa, Bill (David Lewis) Card of Chicago, Illinois, Boyd (Mary Jo) Card of Dubuque, Iowa; two daughters: Donna (Gary) Beyer of Folletts, Iowa, and Dana (Ron) Newman of Melbourne, Florida, 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Don (Cleo) Card of Rock Falls, Illinois, Lloyd (Lavern) Card of Rock Falls, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one sister, and his grandson: Shawn. The family respectfully requests that memorials in lieu of flowers be made to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church Endowment Fund.
