Lee Sullens was born March 4, 1927 in Anthony, Kansas, the son of Orville and Georgia (Miller) Sullens. He attended school up to the eighth grade then worked to help support his family. He later joined the Army and then the Merchant Marines to serve our country state side during WWII. After the war ended he moved from El Reno, OK to the Quad Cities looking for work. He seemed to have a real knack for salesmanship, selling magazine subscriptions, pots and pans to eventually siding. He stepped out on his own in business in 1953, which launched United Roofing and Siding with only $100 in his pocket. He was blessed with success as he built his business and raised a family of five. He married the love of his life, June in 1950, they were married 67 years.
Throughout his life he enjoyed hunting, fishing, was an avid boater and enjoyed Lake Tenkiller in Oklahoma and his Florida home in Gulf Breeze. He loved to garden and share his bountiful produce with many. He loved dancing and his many travels with June. He had a wonderful opportunity this past fall to attend the Quad City Honor Flight to Washington D.C. which was a highlight of his life. His biggest joy in life was spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; they were his pride and joy. Lee had a very winsome personality and was a kind gentleman to all he met. He had a most generous spirit always ready to give a helping hand to those in need and those he loved.
He rededicated his life to Christ in January of 2016 and was baptized at 90 years old. He attended Gateway Baptist Church.
Lee is survived by his four children: Perry (Deb Weed) Sullens of Clinton, Pat (Patty) Sullens of Camanche, Peggy (Larry) Tucker of Morrison, and Preston (Lynnel) Sullens of Miles; 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, three sisters-in-law, Jean Bisson of Clinton, Mildred Sullens of El Reno, OK and Peggy Lawrence of Mobile, Alabama, many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers and a sister, his beloved wife, June and a daughter, Polly. He has left a legacy and will be missed by all.
Memorials may be made to Gateway Baptist Church.
