Leah Swigert's Obituary
Leah S. Swigert, 99, of Clinton, was called to her heavenly home on January 2, 2010 from her home at Bickford Cottage. She was cared for so lovingly by the entire staff at Bickford who loved her and will miss her cheerful smile. The family is also grateful to Shelley and Heidi with Mercy Hospice for their care and support. A Memorial Service to celebrate Leah’s life will be held later this spring. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory is assisting the family. Leah Sibert Elliott was born on February 20, 1910 in Middlegrove, Illinois, the daughter of Emmert and Iva (Brubaker) Elliott. She married Leonard W. Swigert on December 26, 1934 in Rock Island, Illinois; he later died on January 26, 1993. Leah was a homemaker. She enjoyed music and dancing. She taught ceramics out of her home and was exceptional at painting china and oil receiving blue ribbons for her pieces. Leah is survived by a daughter: Saundra (Larry) Bengston of Clinton, Iowa, one son: William (Nancy) Swigert of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, a son-in-law: John Bowman of Fairview, North Carolina; seven grandchildren: Douglas (Tammy) Bengston, Jan (Herb) Shafer, Lara (Dale) Kimmer, Michael (Denise) Bowman, Leigh Bowman, Amy (Doug) Sack, Mindy (Irik) Anderson; seventeen great-grandchildren: Joshua Bengston, Cassie Bengston, Jennifer Green, Kimberly Clark, Meghan Haas Chad Kimmer, Allison Kimmer, Mara Kimmer, Melissa Gilroy, Nicholas Bowman, Jeremy Bowman, Gaven Sack, Burgin Sack, Aren Anderson, Soren Anderson, Joshua Abney, and Justin Bowman; ten great-great grandchildren: Jacob and Matthew Green, Juliana and Lucas Clark, Gabe and Andy Bowman, Devon Bowman, Thomas, Madeline, and Patrick Haas. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter: Janet Bowman, and two grandchildren: Julie Finley and Terry Bowman Memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church.
