Lawrence M. Melvin, Sr.'s Obituary
Lawrence M. Melvin, Sr., 83, of Clinton, passed away, Monday, October 24, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 am, Friday, October 28, 2016 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Chad Melvin, William Head, tom Wainscott, Dane Runge, Jakiah Evans, Eric Snodgrass, Tony Huizenga and Josh Christiansen. Honorary pallbearers will be Burt Melvin and Glen Melvin. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
Lawrence Martin Melvin was born January 26, 1933 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Glen and Norma (Barber) Melvin. He married Janene Gladhill on January 18, 1958; she passed away in 1991. He later married Marlene Mumm on February 24, 1994 in Clinton.
Larry worked for the City of Clinton for 43 years retiring in 1994. He enjoyed camping, bowling, fishing and just being outside. He really loved to ride his bicycle. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Clinton.
He is survived by his loving wife Marlene of Clinton; three children: Kimberly Galbraith of Fulton, Lawrence (Cathy) Melvin, Jr. of Clinton and Ruth Michelle (Bob) Mason of Baton Rogue, Louisiana; four step-children: Nancy Roggendorf of Clinton, Mark (Karen) Roggendorf of California, Julie Stracener of Clinton and David (Cathy) Roggendorf of Clinton; thirteen grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; two brothers: Burt (Louise) Melvin of Clinton and Glen (Theresa) Melvin of Clinton; and many nieces and nephews.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, one sister, and two brothers.
