Larry May's Obituary
Larry A. May, 75, of Clinton, passed away, Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at Mercy Living Center - North.
Funeral Services will be 10:00am, Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Zion Lutheran Church, Clinton. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Billy Greenwalt, Nick Lawrence, Sean Lawrence, Lee Camp, Jeff Keister, and Randy Teymer. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be John Harlson, Jim McGraw, Tom Swamberger, Jack Collins, Charlie Turner, Mike Fullan, Steve Cundiff, Tom Bohle, Harold Rycroft, Fred Jensen, Tom Kelly, Mike Petersen and Jerry Edwards. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00-7:00pm at Zion Lutheran Church. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Larry Allen May was born on June 26, 1939 in Clinton, the son of Alfred and Marie (Gifford) May. He was a 1957 graduate of Clinton High School.
Larry was the past owner of May Electric. He served for 17 years with the Iowa DNR Conservation Commission boat safety enforcement and 10 years for the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department as a deputy sheriff. He served for on the Civil Service Commission for 17 years for the Sheriff’s Department and 7 years for the Police and Fire Department.
Larry was a former member of St. Stephens and New Hope Lutheran Church. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. He was a former president of Clinton Pony League Baseball for 44 years, Assistant AD for the Prince of Peace Catholic Schools for 8 years, received the Governor’s Award for Snowmobile Safety, served as grand marshal of the Mardi Gras, Clinton High School Homecoming and River Boat Days parades, IHSAA Friend of the School, served on River Boat Days board, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Jaycees, a mason, and former member of the Builders Club. Larry was a friend to all who were fortunate to know him.
Larry is survived by his brothers: Roger (Sue) May of Clinton, Michael (Cheryl) May of Fulton, and his sister: Marcia (John) Jaeckle of New London, Wisconsin; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Zion Lutheran Church.
